Overview of position
  • Established in 1951, IOM is the leading INGO in the field of migration & works closely with the govt., other INGO's & NGO's  partners. 
  • IOM is dedicated to promoting humane & orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services & advice to govt's. & migrants.
Role objectives
  • Under the overall supervision of the Protection Officer, the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant & in close coordination with other colleagues, the successful candidate will conduct all steps of the case management process for the assigned cases.
  • Undertake regular protection monitoring visits to assigned locations where migrants, IDPs, returnees & vulnerable host communities [MENM1] may reside, prepare protection assessment reports.
  • Conduct vulnerability screenings & in depth assessments in assigned locations to help identify the urgent needs & possible solutions.
  • Prepare assistance plans & provide regular, timely & comprehensive follow up in coordination with specialized protection colleagues & under the supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant.
  • Inform beneficiaries of all relevant services available.
  • Refer cases to relevant partner organizations & international organizations for appropriate follow up & / or to other units within IOM for their respective follow up.
  • Maintain up to date case records of all assigned cases & promptly complete all data entry & reporting requirements.
  • Carry out administrative duties as requested.
  • Facilitate events with target groups, state actors & service providers in the field on selected protection concerns if required.
  • Participate in awareness raising events & support IOM in trainings & workshops arranged by IOM & partners if required.
  • Participate in case management meetings & other protection meetings.
  • Assist with informal translations of documents & data, as well as oral interpretations to & from English & French as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Project reporting
This role works under the overall supervision of the Protection Officer, the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant & in close coordination with other colleagues at IOM.
Key competencies- Completed Bachelors Degree from an accredited academic institution in Political or Social Sciences, Development Studies, Social Work, Human Rights, International Relations or Law, or other relevant field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in the field of GBV & assistance to vulnerable populations.
- Effective organizational skills & ability to establish priorities & plans, ability to work under pressure & cope with deadlines.
- Demonstrated problem solving attitude & skills.
- Good written & spoken communications skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi cultural environment.
- Fluent in English & Arabic, both written & spoken, knowledge of French is considered an advantage.
- Good knowledge of MS Office applications .e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
